Today, I would like to talk to you for CCA that is the common problems for Air shipment.

What is CCA in Air Shipping - Air Freight Terms

What is CCA?

CARGO CHARGES CORRECTION ADVICE (CCA): The document used for the notification of changes to the transportation charges and/or the other charges and/or the method of payment.

When will CCA be used?

Many may say that will be used for amendment of the bill of lading. At the beginning, CCA was appropriate for alteration cost charges. Such as the payment of freight was wrong or IATA rate on MAWB was wrong and so on.

However, we can know that CCA can be appropriate for the amendment of consignee and not only for the wrong prince during the actual operation. The agent of destination can’t get in touch with correct consignee to do clearance and pick up the goods if the consignee was wrong. So we have to let airline to send CCA to the agent at destination to change the consignee.

Please pay attention that CCA must be issued by airline. The forwarder sent the application of amendment to airline. Then airline will send CCA to related personnel (the staff of transit airport and destination airport and so on).

However, do not think that air waybills can be issued random since we can send CCA to airline to amend the wrong information. All airlines will charge a fee for CCA and the cost of CCA is RMB400~RMB 1000 per time. And sometimes, the CCA can be sent successfully after several times and so the cost will be higher. And some Customs of destination reject CCA, such as GRU. So all the content of air waybills must be got client’s confirmation before clearance at AOL.

What does the airline do when they received CCA application?

First they will check where the goods are. Because they need to notify the relevant terminal which goods are located in. For example, one air shipment is from NGB to SAP which will be transited ex LAX and MIA and then SAP. If the goods were just arrived LAX, airline only need to inform LAX and LAX will make changes according to CCA content. If the goods were arrived SAP already, the CCA must be sent to all the airports which were passed. In this case, there are LAX and MIA and SAP. That’s why CCA is needed to send several times. Why did LAX and MIA have to be informed after the goods were arrived at SAP? Because the shipment’s information must be recorded at each airport which goods will be passed. The telegram is needed to report and summarize at each airport.

In the past, the CCA is needed to type up word for word by typewriter. ut then people realized that the telegraph was too expensive and inconvenient, and it is impossible to carry a telegraph everywhere. As networks become increasingly popular, the most airlines send the CCA by E-mail. But some airlines still use telegraph to send CCA, such as MU. Therefore, after the CCA was transmitted by airline, the forwarder will get the screenshot of the telegram or E-mail. Then you can send it to client and let them to check it with agent of destination and to make clearance/pick up the goods.
